THE LORE
Every studio has a story. This is mine. ꩜
Why FALLOW
The word came to me one night in bed, and it wouldn't leave.
A fallow field is land left to rest so it can grow again. To the eye, nothing is happening. Underneath, everything is: the soil is rebuilding, roots are reaching, seeds are deciding when to wake.
The world tends to call that season empty. I call it sacred. FALLOW is my practice of honoring my own rhythm, keeping clarity in my values, and trusting alignment over force, knowing that it will always lead me to my most fulfilled artistic life.
Claiming FALLOW as my studio name gives me a North star to come back to when the speed of the world spins me around.
I chose a studio name instead of my own because FALLOW was never meant to be only mine. The deepest art doesn’t belong to a single person; it taps into a shared undercurrent of human myth, memory, and dreaming—a collective unconscious. When we step back and let our minds lie fallow, we aren't just resting in isolation. We are sinking into that vast, subterranean desert where all our stories overlap. It is where the boundaries dissolve and we find what connects us. It's a field for anyone who needs permission to grow at their own pace.
Hi, I'm Suni Daze.
I'm a self-taught painter and multidisciplinary artist, raised in Texas and now rooted in Wimberley, in the Texas Hill Country.
For eleven years I've been a hairstylist, and that work has never been only about hair. It's about seeing what lives beneath the surface and bringing it into alignment with the outside world, through color, texture, shape and trust.
Over the years, the container for that work kept needing revision. Each time I outgrew it, the signs came as friction and exhaustion, and each time I let the old shape break down and rebuilt. In 2025 I reached that edge again. This time, instead of rebuilding right away, I took a breath. I cut back my hours and let the open space show me what came next.
In that fallow field, my artistry was renewed and redirected: the same gift in an entirely new form. Painting.
Queer, country, horse-obsessed, spiritual, soft, a little rebellious, outgoing and happiest in long stretches of solitude, I bring every part of myself into FALLOW Studio, where all of it has room to grow.
Every field has its seasons. Here are mine.
ROOT: where it came from
It began in the chair. Years of listening closely, of helping people see themselves, of turning what was felt but unseen into something you could touch. Before FALLOW had a name, it had a practice: transformation through care, acceptance and a little bit of magic.
REST: the in-between
This is where we are now. The field is quiet, and everything is growing. I'm painting ORIGIN, my first collection, slowly and on purpose, one season at a time. The studio is finding its shape, its people and its rhythm. Nothing here is rushed, and that's the point.
RISE: where it's going
FALLOW is reaching toward a wider field: art that lives in homes, in nature and in everyday life, in more forms than paint alone. New collaborations, new ways to gather and new ways to experience the work are already taking root. The ripple starts here.
Mystic western surrealism
A 70s western fever dream, painted slow.
My paintings are rich, layered oils that live somewhere between daily introspection and the dream state. The wild Texas landscape, the creatures who live there and the folklore I gather become visual symbols, carrying personal stories into greater myth.
Every painting works on more than one level. On the surface, it's strange, beautiful and rooted in Texas. Underneath, there are symbols, stories and personal myth waiting for anyone who wants to go deeper. Nothing is explained. What you find is yours.
What feeds the field
The deserts, canyons and rivers of Texas, and the creatures who live there
Horses, my oldest teachers in patience, instinct and choosing again
Vessels, mirrors, candle flames and water: the quiet objects that hold us
Folklore, old stories and the ones handed to me by others
Dreams, and the hazy space just before waking
The magic hiding in the mundane, waiting to be seen
Build it intentionally, not perfectly
Every painting starts with an ordinary moment, lived or remembered. Before I begin, I mix every color I'll need and tidy them into neat piles. As I paint, they spread, blend and scramble, and I come back to center, clean up and begin again.
That's how I try to live, too. Structure is what lets me get messy without going off the rails. The paintings are built in layers: thin shadows first, then rich direct paint, then a final glaze that gives the light its glow. Oil takes its time, and so do I.
What the work explores
Wholeness, and welcoming every part of ourselves home
Contradictions that never contradict
Choice, and how we see ourselves shaping what's possible
Rest, rhythm and the seasons that look like nothing
Thresholds, portals and the containers that hold us while we change
if the world wasn’t strange, we wouldn’t dream
To the dreamers and the rhythm rebels: remember who you are. You are the alchemy and the alchemist. ꩜
